Commonwealth Games Mascot 2022
The Commonwealth Games is an international multi-sport event that involves athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The event is held every four years, and the next one is scheduled to take place in Birmingham, England in 2022. As part of the Games, a mascot is chosen to represent the event and its spirit.
This year’s mascot for the Birmingham Games is a I am sure you will all be pleased to hear that the official name of our wonderful new mascot has been revealed as ‘Karma’. The word ‘karma’ means ‘action, work or deed’ in Sanskrit, which originates from India – one of the 71 nations competing in next year’s games. It also reflects some of Birmingham’s key values as a friendly and welcoming city with a strong sense of community.
It was really important to us that our new mascot represented these values whilst also having an instant appeal to children (the main target audience). After much deliberation we think we have found the perfect balance and we hope you agree! Karma was designed by eleven-year-old Morgan Wintle from Solihull who entered our competition earlier this year asking for budding young artists to come up with their own design for our new games time friend.
Her winning design was inspired by her love of sport as well as animals often seen competing in sporting events such as cheetahs (speed), lions (strength) and eagles (endurance). She also wanted Karma to have an element of fun about him – which I think she has achieved perfectly through his big smile and bright colours! We are extremely proud to have such a fantastic new addition to Team Birmingham and I am confident he will play a big role in helping us deliver an amazing Commonwealth Games experience for everyone involved whether you are watching at home or here with us in person.

How Won the Commonwealth Games 2022?
The 2022 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly abbreviated as CWG, is an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that are scheduled to be held in Birmingham, England, United Kingdom. It is due to be the largest sporting event ever held in England, with some 4500 athletes from 71 different nations expected to take part in 19 sports. Birmingham was awarded the right to host the Games at the 2018 Commonwealth Games Federation General Assembly in Australia.
It beat out bids from Liverpool and London who had also put their hat in the ring to host the prestigious event. This will be the third time that Birmingham has hosted a major multi-sport event after previously hosting both The World Indoor Games in 1991 and The World Athletics Championships in 1993. So how did Birmingham manage to win the bid for such a coveted spot?
Well, it all came down to having a very strong and robust bid plan that impressed upon those making the decision. Some of the key elements that set Birmingham’s bid apart included: A world-class athletes’ village which would be located close to competition venues as well as being within walking distance of central Birmingham itself – this was seen as a big plus given that many athletes prefer not to have long travel times between where they are staying and where they are competing.
A promise to deliver ‘inspiring games for everyone’ – this meant ensuring there would be plenty of opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get involved in both watching and taking part in sporting activities during the course of the Games. An extensive legacy programme which would leave a lasting positive impact on sport participation levels across England – something that is always high on any major sporting event organisers’ agenda these days. Ultimately, it was these factors (amongst others) which helped swing things in Birmingham’s favour and saw them earn the right to stage what promises to be a spectacular sporting extravaganza in just over two years’ time!
